Over 500 NYC children burned alive or drowned…why have so few people heard of this catastrophe?
On June 15, 1904 over 1000 New Yorkers – almost all women and children – were killed in the General Slocum Disaster, the deadliest event in NYC history (until 9/11).
Was the General Slocum Disaster caused by corporate negligence or was it pre-planned mass murder designed to destroy “Little Germany” the neighborhood in Lower Manhattan that is no more.
I have meant to cover this story for years, and am proud of the work I have done here. Arguably, I solved the crime.
