Stop Physician-Assisted Suicide
Legislation passed in Europe, Canada, and the US (Oregon and California) demonstrate physician-assisted suicide endangers the vulnerable, corrupts the doctor-patient relationship, and harms already challenged families.
NY is one of many US states considering “MAID” – “Medically Assisted Aid in Dying” – legislations; it has passed in 10 states so far.
From the “Not Dead Yet” – a disability rights group opposed to assisted suicide and euthanasia laws – “Why New Yorkers should vote “no” to the “Medical Aid in Dying Act” assisted suicide “…has no basis in medical science or medical tradition…no one will be immune to its long-term corrosive and destructive effects on the healthcare system.” – Dr. Joseph Marine, professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
From the Patients Rights Action Fund’s “Seven Important Reasons to Oppose Assisted Suicide Laws”: “…assisted suicide gives insurance companies and governments the ability to save money by pushing lethal drugs that are less expensive than treatment.
This has happened in Oregon and California where patients were refused coverage of life-saving treatment and offered lethal drugs instead.”
If you are opposed to MAID: share this information with your networks, consider joining/supporting these groups, and tell elected officials you oppose physician-assisted suicide laws.
